About us

Trashed is the exciting online platform for young creative people. Through Trashed you can…

Show off your talent

There are challenges on the site that have been set by leading creative professionals. They could cover anything creative: writing a review, creating a photo gallery, recording a podcast, shooting a video, sketching a design and much more.

Your responses to the challenges get edited by our team of professionals, and posted on our online magazine. Then the best work gets promoted in our monthly email newsletter, which goes out to creative young people just like you. And the absolute finest work goes into our Trashed magazines – specially printed publications that get distributed across London and the UK.

As well as impressing your friends you’ll produce brilliant work, which will look great as part of your college, university or job application.

Get unique experiences

We’ve got special assignments to hand out to the people who contribute the most impressive and professional work. These could be:

  • Celebrity interviews – Trashed kids have interviewed everyone from Chipmunk and Bashy to You Me At Six and The Horrors.
  • Backstage access – a crew of Trashed creatives were at the Underage Festival 2010 in Victoria Park in east London, reporting from backstage and mingling with the performers.
  • Exclusive reviews – want to get access to an exclusive Tinchy Stryder secret gig? A team of our reporters did just that.
  • Professional site visits – whether you want to get a tour of a real magazine office or spend the day at a fashion shoot, we use our contacts to give you access to unique experiences.

Get published for real – if you produce a truly amazing piece of work, we can speak to our contacts in the media and creative industries to see if we can get it published. Trashed contributors have been published in Time Out magazine, NME.com and a magazine supplement for Rolex.

Learn new skills

Our learning modules are put together by top creative professionals. So you could be picking up writing skills from a magazine journalist, audio editing skills from a hip hop producer, photo tips from a fashion photographer, or interviewing skills from a TV presenter.

These skills will help you complete the challenges on our site and give you the edge in the real world. We also teach the business skills that you’ll need to run your own projects.

Interested?

There are three ways to impress us:

  • Do the work – the first step is to get involved. Check out the work that people are already doing on our online magazine, and then pick a challenge that you want to do. Once you’ve sent us your response you’ll be part of the Trashed team, and on your way to brilliant experiences and opportunities.
  • Pure quality – we’re looking for the most talented and creative young people in the UK. So if you can impress us with the high standard of your work – whether it’s writing, photography, design or whatever – you’re more likely to be offered exclusive assignments and unique opportunities.
  • Enthusiasm – this may be the most important thing. If you can’t be bothered or you want an easier route, that’s fine – but we’re interested in working with young people who have the drive and ambition to be creative and successful. Show us you care.
